Lewis Vibul Hun, Ph.D., is a Cambodian American scientist and program leader whose career spans scientific research, public health, environmental health, higher education, and organizational leadership.
Born in Phnom Penh and raised in Sihanoukville (Kampong Som), Lewis immigrated to the United States in 2002 and graduated from high school in 2006. Lewis began his career in scientific research, conducting work at the University of Arizona and the University of California, Riverside in mosquito biology, molecular biology, genetics, and vector-borne disease. His research included genetic engineering and CRISPR-based approaches and resulted in publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
He later transitioned from academic research into public service, serving as a Program Manager with the Santa Clara County Vector Control District, where he led multidisciplinary teams and public health programs focused on vector-borne disease prevention, environmental management, regulatory compliance, and community protection.
Lewis currently serves as Assistant Director for Healthy Facilities at Stanford University, where he provides leadership in program strategy, policy development, training, performance improvement, and initiatives that promote healthier environments for the university community.
Throughout his career, Lewis has remained passionate about education, mentorship, and creating opportunities for the next generation. He hopes to use his experience in science, public service, and leadership to support education and community development in Cambodia and to give back to the country where his journey began.
